Political Cartoons

VIETNAM WAR KERRY CAMPAIGN 2004 CAMPAIGN VIETNAMESE PEOPLEThis cartoon suggests that a lot of people didn’t even know why the two countries were even fighting.the soldiers sometimes didn’t even know why they were fighting. This points out a few flaws in American society. The American public was not very knowledgeable about why we were in Vietnam, yet a large part of the public was fighting the war. People were being drafted for a war that they didn’t even know the reason it was going on. This was also very similar to citizens in Vietnam.

images.asc.ohio-state.eduThis cartoon shows Nixon with his famous double “peace sign” going into a meat grinder labeled Vietnam. To the right of the meat grinder you can see the piled up remains of Lyndon Johnson. Nixon’s plan to reduce US troops in Vietnam was  called Vietnamization which was the process of training Vietnamese troops to take the place of US troops. While this did reduce troops Nixon also allowed the government to increase their bombing campaign which ultimately led to the loss of support from US citizens and to Nixon’s end much like Lydon Johnson’s.

Montgomery-bus-boycott-cartoon-021356-by-Laura-Gray-The-Militant4The Montgomery bus boycott occurred Before the 60s, however it sparked the fire known as the Civil Rights Movement.  In 1956 Rosa Parks refused to give her seat up to a white person on a bis in Montgomery Alabama and after her act of heroine-ism a boycott of the Montgomery buses was started.  This display of racial pride Carried over to the Sixties and seventies.  A prominent subject for those next few decades was the subject of racism and standing up to unjust laws.  the cartoon shows the standing up to the oppressive laws during the time and the heroic disregard of the laws.
